Bali – The Digital Nomad Hotspot in Asia

Bali - Digital Nomad Hotspots in Asia

Bali is not only known for its world-class beaches and good climate but of course, its unique culture and history play a big part in its popularity. From the lush rice terraces to the impressive temples, great surf spots to scenic volcanoes, Bali has so much to offer, it’s no wonder it has become such a favorite among travelers.

If you consider yourself a digital nomad or someone who needs a bit of a workation, here are just some of the many reasons you should consider Bali as your next destination!

Digital nomad culture and community

Bali is possibly the most popular digital nomad destination in Asia (along with Chiang Main in Thailand). There are so many opportunities to meet like-minded digital nomads from around the world. You can also get everything you need as a remote worker easily; along with the many cafes and restaurants, there is also a wealth of stylish coworking and coliving spaces.

Cost of living

The cost of living in Bali depends on your preferred lifestyle. That said, if you are on a tight budget, then you can still enjoy your time and live pretty comfortably in Bali! Food can cost as little as $1, with a private room costing less than $50 a night.

Internet speed

Of course, the Internet is essential for digital nomads. Fortunately, Bali surpasses expectations, especially in the areas where foreign travelers hang around. WiFi connections, whether in your accommodation or public areas, are pretty fast, and you can stream videos, attend webinars, and download and upload content without issues.

Where to work remotely in Bali

The local government has noticed the rise of ex-pats and digital nomads, which is why they are ramping up their efforts to make the place more conducive to work and play, including a plan to provide a digital nomad visa for eligible foreigners. This is one of the reasons coworking and coliving spaces have become so abundant in Bali – perfect for the digital nomad in you!

So here we’ll cover some of the best coworking spaces in Bali. We made our list specifically with digital nomads in mind, and made sure to include the following:

  • Working conditions and Internet connection
  • Accessibility and ease of transportation
  • Attractions and accommodation options nearby
  • Overall community environment and its ambience
  • Extra features and amenities

7. BeLuna, Ubud (Coworking)

Beluna coworking space in Bali
Photo: BeLuna official Facebook page

BeLuna is a bright and welcoming place that was designed for “focus, engagement, and connection back to nature and other expanders.” Being a digital nomad or freelancer can sometimes feel lonely, so the creators wanted to make sure that BeLuna felt like home. After all, if you’re not comfortable, how can you expect to do your best work?

As part of their “focus” mantra, they’ve made sure to create a space for… you guessed it, optimal focus. Frustrated with the distractions you might find working at a regular café, this place has all the comfort but none of the deterrents from concentration. Their huge windows even double as whiteboards for brainstorming and getting creative! Next up is “engagement”; one of the quirks of BeLuna is their no-shoes policy. So kick off your heels and feel grounded and engaged with every surface. Head downstairs to engage with others and get networking, and make use of their “connection” philosophy to go and create brand-new ideas with someone you’ve never met before!

As you would expect of such a fantastic coworking space, their high-speed internet is very reliable, and there are plenty of different rooms and plans to choose from for coliving, too.

Bali Bustle is another coworking spot great for focus and concentration. If you’re looking to get your head down and get some work done without feeling like you’re alone in your room, this is the place to go!

They have a café space with indoor and outdoor seating to get your work done with a latte at your side, or a bright office space (pictured) for more focused work. The workspace is reminiscent of a forward-thinking office that you might find at a company, so perfect if you want something a little more familiar. Much like the other coworking spaces we’ve mentioned, Bali Bustle also has Skype rooms, a lounge area, and a cooling pool. But unlike the others, Bali Bustle also has a gym! This is great for those who need a bit of a workout to get the ideas flowing.

If you’d like to stay for a while, Bali Bustle has two different areas for coliving: Bali Bustle Kuta and Bali Bustle Sunset. Both have fully furnished studio rooms and lofts with ensuites, but Bali Bustle Kuta also offers family rooms with two bedrooms. All have a sleek, clean style to them, and offer access to all of their coworking facilities.

10. Uluwatu Hub, Uluwatu (Coworking)

Uluwatu Hub coworking space
Photo: Uluwatu Hub official website

The Uluwatu Hub is a fairly new coworking space in Bali that features a chic, aesthetic design that’s perfect for creators. It’s the first of its kind around the area, featuring a coworking space right in the center of Uluwatu. This means you can surf during your days off and head on back to the coworking space if you need to send a quick email or make a call.

One of the unique features of Uluwatu Hub is the fact that they have four different themed workspaces. Pictured above is “The Plunge”, a laid-back space with a truly Bali vibe, presumably named for its location right next to the pool. This spot is great for when you just need to get some light tasks done, because you’ll definitely be lured into the pool from time to time! Next up is their Bambu Lounge, a warmly-lit space with colorful ceilings and a sleek bar. Head to the Collab Room for a checkered floor and characteristic wall paintings, or head outside to the Talent Garden if you want to feel the warm sun on your skin to get that inspiration flowing.

These are all spaces perfect for laid-back work over a coffee or snack, but if you need to put your head down and focus, their newer “Silent Zone” might be more suitable. Compared to their other sections that really say “workation”, the Silent Zone has a more minimalist vibe and separated desks and plug sockets to get into the zone… the Silent Zone.

The coworking space as a whole offers strong WiFi and great food and coffee, a luscious pool, and spacious desks and comfy seats for you to be productive in style.
