Nomad Summit: The First Digital Nomad Conference
Founded in 2015 by Johnny FD, Nomad Summit made its debut as the world’s first digital nomad conference, drawing around 150 nomads to Chiang Mai, the heart of the digital nomad movement. The event was created to bring like-minded individuals together to share ideas, strategies, and inspiration. Over the years, Nomad Summit has blossomed into a global phenomenon, impacting the lives of countless remote workers worldwide.
Since its inception, the conference has been held annually in Chiang Mai, with its reach expanding to include international events in Las Vegas in 2018 and Cancun in 2019. The Pandemic and Uncertainty About the Future
In 2020, Nomad Summit was slated to take place in Tbilisi, Georgia, but the event was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ultimately canceled.
This disruption marked a pivotal moment for Nomad Summit, as it faced an uncertain future. With the pandemic casting a shadow over events worldwide, Johnny FD shifted his focus away from organizing the conference and relocated to Kyiv, stepping into a new phase of his entrepreneurial journey.
The Reunion of Two Visionaries
In the summer of 2023, entrepreneur Christoph Huebner, who had spoken at Nomad Summit in both 2019 and 2020, unexpectedly reconnected with Johnny FD in Kyiv during a support mission for Ukraine. This chance encounter led to talks about bringing Nomad Summit back to life.
After much thought and drawing on his experience in event management, Christoph decided to take on the challenge. He teamed up with Kai Isand, Head of Program for Estonia’s Latitude59 tech conference, and Philipp Weber, co-owner of Bansko Nomad Fest, to relaunch the summit.
