A One-Month Coliving Experience in Rural Japan
Alt_Popup in Japan is a vibrant, community-driven popup coliving experience designed for remote professionals. From November 10 to December 10, 2025, you’re invited to join a welcoming community of people in the charming town of Kotohira, Shikoku — surrounded by mountains, temples, and that peaceful countryside vibe.
It’s a month of coworking, slow living, and cultural exploration, with weekly themes like space / pause, impermanence, harmony, and gratitude. Expect cozy work sessions, meaningful conversations, local adventures, and a chance to reset — all while living and creating together in a unique corner of Japan.

Organizer: Alt_Coliving

Alt_Coliving runs two well-known coliving spaces in Chiang Mai, Thailand, offering a home base for remote workers looking for comfort and community. Building on that foundation, they also host pop-up coliving experiences in unique destinations around the world — bringing together remote professionals for a shared living, work, and cultural exploration.
Event Highlights
Live in the heart of Kotohira, a charming cultural town
Nestled in the mountains of Shikoku, Kotohira offers a peaceful, authentic setting rich in history and tradition — from the iconic Konpira-san shrine to local udon shops and kabuki theaters. This intimate popup also connects you with locals through welcome gatherings and shared experiences in town.
Coliving and coworking, all under one roof
Stay at Kotori Coworking & Hostel, a cozy and well-equipped space featuring semi-private dorms, high-speed Wi-Fi, 24/7 coworking with monitors and meeting rooms, a communal kitchen, and peaceful work corners — designed for comfort, focus, and community.
Mindful activities and wellness-focused programming
Each week includes guided sessions like yoga, meditation, and mindfulness workshops, plus a group day trip to a nearby pilgrimage trail. The program is shaped around weekly themes such as space (Ma), impermanence (Mujō), harmony (Wa), and gratitude (Kansha).
Balanced Itinerary & Co-Created Calendar
With a mix of anchor activities and open time, the schedule is designed for both productivity and immersion. Weekly Family Meetings invite participants to shape the experience together—whether it’s planning a game night, leading a skill-share, or organizing a local outing.
Supportive Hosting & Pre-Arrival Onboarding
From the moment you sign up, you’re guided every step of the way. Before arrival, connect with fellow participants through online meetups and group chats, and get access to a custom Digital Handbook to help you prepare. On-site, a bilingual community manager and local staff ensure a smooth, welcoming experience — bridging cultural gaps, offering local insights, and creating an inclusive, connected environment.
